NOEW attendees needed an easier way to keep track of all the great startups, entrepreneurs, and investment opportunities they discovered, and The Idea Village wanted to include a fun, engaging, and viral feature in the app that would encourage people to spread the word, both about the app itself and NOEW as a whole.

With such a fun set of requirements, it didn’t take us long to produce some great designs that would form the basics of the app. We knew it had to incorporate ways to connect and share via social, browse through events and companies, and make it as easy as possible to engage with entrepreneurs that were participating in NOEW. From these directives, the basic design framework of Idea Village for iPhone was born.

To support all of these great features, a robust, high-performance API would also need to be constructed. All of those profiles, votes, favorites, companies, and schedules had to be stored somewhere, and most data displayed in the app would need to be updated in realtime. So we built The Idea Village a powerful, yet-easy-to-use dashboard that would serve as a home base for all things related to the app.

The App Dashboard gave them control over almost every single content element in the app, so if an event needed to be moved to a new timeslot or location, it could be updated and reflected in the app immediately. A budding entrepreneur wants to change his logo design for the 23rd time? No problem. Instantly updated.

The Dashboard also provided some tremendously insightful analytics, reporting, and realtime stats. They knew how many times the app had been downloaded, down to the second. The Dashboard home gave them instant, at-a-glance access to the top performers in several key areas of interest and levels of engagement.

Even with a tight, aggressive deadline, by the time NOEW 2013 rolled around, to everyone’s excitement, The Idea Village for iPhone was already in the App Store waiting to be downloaded by attendees, entrepreneurs, investors, and supporters from around the world.

Everyone was happy with the results, so we were as well.

If you’re like us, you like to put WWNO on and listen to it in the background all day long, so you can hear all of their great featured NPR shows such as All Things Considered and Morning Edition, as well as their priceless New Orleans-based programming such as Where Y’Eat and Community Impact. With this in mind, we made sure that in this new version of the app you could send it into the background without having to pause the stream, so you can listen to all that great content while you go about your day tweeting, Facebooking, and checking email on the go.

For our New Orleanians that are listening from afar, we added AirPlay support, so you can send the WWNO app’s audio to an AirPlay-enabled stereo. Now you can listen to beautiful classical or unique NOLA jazz throughout your home as well as on your earbuds. It’s not quite as good as being home, but it’ll make a great substitute until you get back here.

With this new rethinking of the app’s design, we also wanted to integrate breaking local news into the app, so you can keep up with what’s going on in New Orleans without having to bounce around to multiple websites and apps. With WWNO for iPhone and iPad, you can browse through up-to-the-minute coverage of local stories while you listen, without ever having to leave the app.

And finally, we wanted to make sure all of WWNO’s great local programming was readily available in the app, so you could find your favorite New Orleans-based shows with ease. Now podcasts and recent stories from WWNO’s award-winning local programs are available within the app, so you can subscribe to All Things New Orleans and The Reading Life without having to look far at all.

When we teamed up with Jolie & Elizabeth, they were very unhappy with an app that had been produced elsewhere, and wanted us to see what could be done to salvage it. We ended up rewriting the app from scratch, to ensure that it would have a level of quality that you would expect from one of the South’s most beloved brands.

One key feature that we felt was missing was e-commerce. Mobile shopping has increased exponentially year after year, with mobile sales now accounting for approximately 13% of all online sales. Since Jolie & Elizabeth are always ahead of the curve both in fashion and in tech, they agreed, and the Shop feature was born. Browse through dresses, choose a look that suits your taste, hit the Buy button, enter your info, and your order is placed. All from your iPhone or iPad, all without leaving the app.

Thinking beyond mobile ordering, we also wanted to include a section that would showcase the beautiful looks of Jolie & Elizabeth in action, with great hi-resolution images that would look amazing on Retina Display-enabled iPhones and iPads. So the Collection feature was born. Browse through gorgeous photos that illustrate just how talented the girls at Jolie & Elizabeth are at designing signature looks that complement and inspire.

In addition to their full-time jobs designing exquisite fashion, Jolie & Elizabeth are also avid proponents for American manufacturing and female empowerment. So we felt it was crucial to give them a section in the app that would allow them to speak to these issues and let customers know what Jolie & Elizabeth stand for as a company. So the About feature gives them that outlet. Learn about the origins of the company, what steps they take to ensure all Jolie & Elizabeth products are 100% Made in America, and what they are doing to empower and inspire young women here in New Orleans and across the country.

And because they’re so tech-savvy, the ladies at Jolie & Elizabeth have a very active social media presence. So we included a feature that allows you to quickly connect with them on various platforms. Tap Connect, and you can instantly follow them on Twitter, like them on Facebook, and interact with them on Instagram. Speaking of social, we also made sure to include the Heart button while browsing dresses, so you can let your followers know how much you love a particular item.

All in all, Jolie & Elizabeth for iPhone and iPad is our best, most ambitious work yet. And we’re very happy to see that reflected in the App Store reviews and feedback from Jolie & Elizabeth’s fans. Download it now and see for yourself!
